Star Gazing and Astronomy

Dark Skies

Easter Corrie is situated within the new Tomintoul Glenlivet - Cairngorms Dark Sky Park. This is the most northerly dark sky park in the world and one of the darkest in the UK. The skies over Easter Corrie itself have an enviable sky quality of 21.7 mpsas. So you don’t have to travel any further than your cottage door to access superbly dark skies.

Star Gazing

Enjoy first class views of the northern Milky Way and shooting stars. If you are lucky you could even be able to see the northern lights during your stay.

Star gazing guides and planispheres are available in all of our cottages so even if you are a beginner you will soon become familiar with the starry heavens. Binoculars are available on request.

If you are already a keen astronomer you are welcome to bring your own equipment. In addition to the individual cottage gardens we have a level area with even better views to the horizon, where you are welcome to set up your telescope and cameras if you wish.

Guided Tours

Guided tours of the night sky are available for guests holidaying at Easter Corrie subject to weather conditions. Our 8” Newtonian telescope will enable you to see fascinating astronomical objects far across the Milky Way and into the depths of intergalactic space.

Even Darker Skies

There are not many places left on our planet that are entirely free from light pollution. However the central Australian desert is one of them and has some of the darkest skies on the planet. If you are ever down that way why not join the Rockstars tour at Uluru and spend a night out in the bush to see for yourself.
